If you’re not already using FSC®-certified paper product, it’s about time to start
For decades, the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) has worked tirelessly to fight issues such as deforestation and climate change. Aside from conserving forests and protecting water quality, the FSC® also focuses on creating safe and sustainable wood products, like paper. And for packaging companies and other businesses, the FSC® has made it simple to know what paper they’re getting and where it’s coming from.
If you’re not already using FSC®-certified paper products, it’s about time you start.
Simply put it’s paper that is granted certification from the Forest Stewardship Council. This guarantees that wood or paper products originate from responsibly managed forests, which includes protecting Indigenous land and limiting clearcutting. The FSC® also focuses on conserving wildlife habitats, among other efforts . Basically, if your paper comes from an FSC-certified forest, you can rest easy knowing you’re using sustainable forest products.
Now, here are five reasons to fall in love with FSC®-certified paper.
Deforestation is one of the most harmful practices still in use around the world, as it directly impacts climate change. As you may recall from science class, trees store carbon. And when forests are mowed down, this carbon gets released back into our atmosphere in the form of carbon dioxide.
The Forest Stewardship Council guarantees that forests are responsibly managed and logged. So, using FSC®-certified paper helps fight against deforestation, and thus climate change.
By using FSC®-certified paper, you are supporting responsible forest management. We’ve already mentioned a few of the practices the FSC® has in place, such as protecting Indigenous land and limiting clearcutting. They also avoid the use of hazardous chemicals and protect natural forest cover. Oh, and they support what they call “democratic and transparent governance” too!
Speaking of transparency, the Forest Stewardship Council® also makes it easy to know where your paper is coming from. FSC®-certified products will always come with a label stating that they are either “FSC® 100%,” “FSC® Recycled,” or “FSC® Mix.” These labels let companies and consumers know they are buying sustainable forest products.
Certain countries (like Canada and the United States) have bans in place that limit the use of illegal timber. The FSC® respects these laws and works toward providing timber that is logged responsibly and legally.
Finally, using FSC®-certified products shows your consumer base exactly what you value. This communicates a simple message. It says: “Our company does not stand for deforestation or climate change, and we will do anything in our power to keep our planet safe.”
In The Bag remains committed to ethical practices, one of which is its long-standing use of FSC®-certified paper products. By using FSC®-certified products, ITB knows that their paper has come from a responsibly and cleanly managed forest. Their use of such products is just one of the many reasons their customer base remains so fiercely dedicated.
